James Lu is partner at Cooley LLP and he heads the firm's Shanghai Business and Finance Practice. He focuses on China-related corporate and securities transactions, including foreign direct investment, venture capital financing, private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions and public offerings. He also has broad experience advising clients on complex cross-border commercial transactions involving unique structures and contractual arrangements designed to comply with legal requirements in multiple jurisdictions, including licensing, joint venture, manufacturing and distribution arrangements in the life sciences and high-tech industries in China.
James is a frequent speaker at local and international conferences and has spoken extensively on topics relating to China's venture capital and capital market environment.
Prior to joining Cooley, James held various marketing and business development management positions at the Eastman Kodak Co. and Life Technologies Corp. in the United States.
During law school, James was invited to join the San Diego Law Review and was the graduating recipient of the Outstanding Service Award for his work at the school's Entrepreneurship Clinic. He is a native Mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.
James holds a B.S. degree from the University of Science and Technology of China, an M.S. degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a J.D. degree from University of San Diego. James is admitted to practice in California.
